British Person who Strived to Cure Hansen's Disease Patients

British missionary Hannah Riddell was sent to a post in Kumamoto at age 35.
She encountered a person affected with leprosy at Honmyoji Temple on the outskirts of Kumamoto city, and in 1895 she opened Kaishun Hospital, which was the first leprosy hospital in Kumamoto and a pioneer in work to help sufferers of the disease in Japan.
She also worked as a social welfare organizer.
