Actress Marilyn Monroe and Major League baseball star Joe DiMaggio visited Japan in 1954 for their honeymoon and stayed in Fukuoka on Feb. 8-10.
They went to the newly opened French restaurant Royal Nakasu Honten all three days in a row for dinner.
Monroe loved the onion gratin soup and ordered it every day.
The restaurant has now changed its name to Hananoki and relocated to Ohori Park.
There is a photo on display in the restaurant of Monroe at the time of her visit to Royal Nakasu Honten, and there is also a room that re-creates the private room they dined in, Room 1953.
This is an authentic French restaurant where diners can enjoy the scenery of lushly green Ohori Park. Its menu includes the onion gratin soup Marilyn Monroe liked.
