Architect Successful in both Japan and France

Japanese architect Ban Shigeru is known around the world as the designer of the Centre Pompidou-Metz in the French city of Metz and of La Seine Musical, a music complex in the suburbs of Paris, among many other structures. For the outer wall of the Oita Prefectural Art Museum, which opened in 2015, he used an impressive design based on the image of bamboo lattice, a traditional handicraft. The Yufu City Tourist Information Center (TIC), which Ban also designed, opened for business in April 2018.
