A Surfing Mecca

Miyazaki Prefecture has a 400 km coastline running north-south, and the waters off it are known as one of the best surfing areas in Japan. There are various good spots around Miyazaki for everyone from beginners to advanced surfers. Hyuga City in particular has some of the best surfing spots in the country, including Okuragahama beach and Kanegahama beach. The city has developed a project called "Relaxed Surf Town Hyuga" to advertise its charms, it hosts the ISA World Junior Surfing Championship, and it’s building a variety of facilities.
