Bridge Replacement Projects

National Highway Route 202, HaruyoshiBridge Replacement (Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture)

National Highway Route 202, HaruyoshiBridge Replacement (Fukuoka City, Fukuoka Prefecture)
More than 50 years have passed since its construction in 1961, lower parts of HaruyoshiBridge are severely damaged, and salt damage is progressing since it is in an estuarine basin (approximately 1.5 km away from river mouth).

Additionally, Nakagawa river, where HaruyoshiBridge spans, experienced a severe flood damage around the drainage basin by a disastrous rain in Chugoku and Northern Kyushu area in July 2009. Responding that disaster, a river improvement project is undertaken by Fukuoka prefecture at the moment. The Narrowness of the spans of bridge piers and the river itself are the bottlenecks on water control.

In order to solve these problems, replacement project of HaruyoshiBridge has been undertaken since 2013 fiscal year.

National highway Route 208, replacement of UrashimaBridge (Miyama city and Yanagawacity, Fukuoka prefecture)

More than 60 years have passed since its construction in 1956, significant aging and damage of main girders and Gerber joints have confirmed in Urashimabridge. Moreover, there is a need of reinforcement of aseismic capacity of the bridge, construction of right turn lane to mitigate congestion and construction of sidewalk to secure the pedestrian safety.

After proceeding the project of replacement to solve these problems, new UrashimaBridge has been open to public on March 10th, 2018.

National highway Route 202, replacement of SusenjiBridge, Fukuoka city, Fukuoka prefecture

Susenjibridge was constructed in 1937 and more than 80 years have passed since then. Reinforcement of aseismic capacity is in need to ensure the capability as a primary emergency transportation route in a time of disaster.

Also, as Susenjiriver where SusenjiBridge spans experienced a severe flood damage by heavy rain in July 2010, a river improvement work is now undertaken by Fukuoka city. Susenjibridge is a bottleneck for water control because the widths of the bridge and the river are narrow.
