Measures for Natural and Seismic Disaster Damage on Roads

Disaster Prevention Check

We are making efforts to prevent disasters such as slope slides due to earthquakes, wind and flood damage etc., by conducting disaster prevention checks to ensure road traffic safety. We inspect for disaster factors such as unstable soil mass, loose rocks, erosion, and clogged small trenches periodically. Also, we work on discovering promptly the places which need attention by an emergency patrol in a time of extreme weather, such as before the rainy season or a typhoon.

Countermeasures to Prevent Slope Slides

We are making efforts to prevent disasters such as slope slides due to earthquakes, wind and flood damage etc., by conducting disaster prevention checks to ensure road traffic safety. In a time of disaster, a series of countermeasures are taken from temporary measures to full-scale restoration to restore traffic movement promptly.

Aseismic Reinforcement

To secure the aseismic capacity of national highway bridges used for emergency transportation routes, we install equipment to prevent bridge collapse due to earthquakes and reinforce to avoid the failure of bridge piers by lining application and so forth.

Extreme Weather Traffic Regulation Zone

YakiyamaPass of National Highway Route 201 is kept closed when the consecutive amount of rainfall reaches 200 mm in each of the following two zones considering the risk of a slide and so on.

Response to Snowfall in YakiyamaPass and YakiyamaBypass

“Concentrated snow clearance zones” are set where gridlock of heavy vehicles or major gridlocks may be foreseen among directly managed roads. At a time of heavy snow, the roads are closed, and the snow is cleared away intensively to prevent the occurrence of stuck vehicles. Within the jurisdiction of the Fukuoka National Highway Office, YakiyamaPass and YakiyamaBypass of National Highway Route 201 are part of this zone.
