MLIT Takeo River Office shows in the WMOs APFM Newsletter

U.N. World Meteorological Organization (WMO) introduced our training workshop for flood management in July 2011.

The Takeo River Office held the training on hazard mapping combined with land use planning in the field to the experts from developing countries on 8-9 February 2011 in the collaboration with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), the International Centre for Water Hazard and Risk Management under the auspices of UNESCO (ICHARM) and the UNESCO International Hydrological Programme (UNESCO-IHP). This training is introduced as a actual measure corresponding to the view of the integrated flood management (Integrated Flood Management) which aims to mitigate flood damage combining so-called hard measure (maintenance of a bank etc.) and soft measure (hazard mapping etc.).
Furthermore, in the 5th International Conference on Flood Management (ICFM5) held in Akihabara, Tokyo on 29 September 2011, the director of the MLIT Takeo River Office presented the flood risk management in the parallel session chaired by WMO. The presentation emphasized not only a concept of risk management but also concrete actions and its evaluation in practice. The presentation file can be seen at ----.
